Wine, hiking, well-being
The Chalet Altalmrich is located on the nature reserve and near the Kleine Saale in the center of Almrich, the small western district of Naumburg. Just 30 meters away there is a children’s playground and a sports field where you can play football.
Historical market place of Naumburg
The Saale is one of the most romantic rivers in Germany.
In the Saale-Unstrut area, the 60-kilometer-long wine route is particularly noteworthy, which leads through graceful vineyards from Nebra to Freyburg, Naumburg and Bad Kösen. Over 60 places to stop for refreshments and numerous wineries along the wine route invite you to try, enjoy and linger, including: the Rotkäppchen sparkling wine cellar.
The Saale Wine Trail through the vineyards, which is ideal for cycling, hiking, skating and jogging thanks to asphalted paths, is only 1 kilometer away from our Chalet Altalmrich and the entrance to the Saale cycle path can also be easily reached in 10 minutes.
Return of the Cranach Triegel Altar
Lucas Cranach the Elder created a three-winged altar retable for the altar of Mary in Naumburg’s west choir in 1519. The central part of the retable, with a depiction of the Mother of God Mary with Child, was destroyed in 1541 in the course of an anti-image action. Since then, the west choir no longer has a patron saint. The large-format side wings with portraits of the two founding bishops and various saints were kept in the cathedral vault of Naumburg Cathedral for centuries.
The Leipzig painter Michael Triegel restored the destroyed central part of the altar retable from 2020 to 2022. Michael Triegel studied painting and graphic arts with Arno Rink, one of the most important pioneers of the New Leipzig School. From July 2022, the completed altar could be admired in Naumburg Cathedral, but the World Monuments Council considered the visual relationships in the west choir between the donor figures to be impaired and even threatened to withdraw the World Heritage title. Now the Unesco World Heritage Center has agreed that the altar may be temporarily reinstalled in Naumburg Cathedral.
Almrich is an ideal starting point for hiking and cycling tours.
